Usare stampante di rete con linux

Salve a tutti.
Mi è stata fatta una richiesta particolare....
configurare una stampante Xerox phaser 6100 (stampante di rete) per linux?
Qualcuno sa dirmi almeno da dove cominciare??
Premetto che con le stampanti di rete non ho mai avuto a che fare e con le stampanti e linux poco...
grazie a chi mi vorrà aiutare!

mi chiarisci un dubbio? la stampante è attaccata alla macchina linux ed essa deve renderla disponibile alle altre macchine o la stampante è di quelle con presa ethernet e tu devi solo fare in modo che linux possa stampare su essa?

...mmm..ho dato un'occhiata sulla 631 come detto da te... il fatto è che la stampante non viene vista e i driver su EPS per la xerox phaser 6100 non ci sono!

qualche domanda:
- riesci a fare un ping verso la stampante di rete?
- hai seguito la procedura: localhost:631 - printers - add printer - metti dati - scegli Internet printing protocol http o ipp (dipende dalla tua stampante) - imposta i dati in Device URI - ... ?
- i driver li hai cercati all'indirizzo http://www.support.xerox.com/go/results.asp?Xlang=it_IT&XCntry=ITA&prodID=6100&ripId=&Xtype=download ??

non riesco ad aggiujngere la stampante perchèmi chiede username e password.... ma quali???
Ho messo quelle di sistema e non vanno admin admin e non va....
Che password vuole CUPS??

cups di solito vuole user e password di root o cmq di un utente in grado di agire sui file di configurazione
 
salve air rispolvero questo topic perchè sto avendo lo stesso problema con una canon in rete. (premetto che non avevo risolto nemmeno allora).
In più però riesco ad accedere a cups come amministratore.
La situazione:
1) Ho dato nmap 192.168.0.15 (indirizzo interno dove sta la stampante) e ho trovato tutti i protocolli e le relative porte aperte
2) ho impostato da cups la stampante a turno su tutti i protocolli
3) in ogni caso mi succede che quando mando la pagina di test si accende la spia della stampante (come se ricevesse una richiesta dalla rete) però non stampa nulla.

COME DEVO FARE?? ho provato di tutto ldp sulla 515 http sulla 80 socket sulla 9100 ...il risultato è sempre lo stesso!!
