Si, guarda i log per vedere cosa o chi causa il riavvio.

si, ne frattempo sto scaricando mint, come ultime spiaggia. i driver video sono settati su noveae, la scheda video non è installata, se passo ai driver, dalla sezione driver aggiuntivi, oltre al riavvio improvviso, lo schermo si sgrana totalemnte

Installare un'altra distro senza guardare i log, è il modo sbagliato di procedere. a parte che Mint è sempre Ubuntu...
Se hai ancora installato Ubuntu, guarda i log (i numeri dopo la "p" sono la priorità dei messaggi ""crit" (2), "err" (3), "warning" (4)":

journalctl -b -p2

journalctl -b -p3

journalctl -b -p4

Fai anche un grep di tutti i messaggi di errore:

journalctl -b -g error

Cercando in breve questo errore, sembra un problema di un aggiornamento del firmware della CPU o un bug, e sembra che dovresti aggiornare il bios:

Edit: And also, the best way to update your microcode is to go to your manufacturer and get a BIOS update. However, that is not always an option which is why the ucode packages exists to even begin with.

Inoltre credo che ci siano altri log, hai provato con la freccia a scendere per guardare altre righe?
