Problema di spegnimento in ubuntu 7.10

Ciao a tutti, spero possiate aiutarmi per questo problemino:
Io possiedo un pc come quello descritto alla voce "sistema", quando uso ubuntu e faccio lo spegnimento o il riavvio, invece che comparire la schermata di ubuntu con la barra arancione, lo schermo diventa tipo rigato con colori strani e con la luminosità che aumenta tale da far diventare lo schermo quasi bianco, e poi il sistema operativo si spegne regolarmente.

Volevo sapere se questo problema si può risolvere.
Uso i driver dei repository di ubuntu, che sono i "nvidia-glx-new".

sul mio portatile in ufficio con scheda ati a volte capita una cosa simile, ma non sempre ... provato a cambiare versione dei driver video?
 
salve a tutti, ho cambiato versione dei driver video, ho messo gli ultimi driver (i 169.07 scaricati dal sito ufficiale nvidia), ho inserito acpi=on ma il problema rimane

Probabilmente è la versione del Kernel, "generic", che hai installato ad avere qualche limite con ACPI dovresti documentarti sul sito di Ubuntu.
Comunque una possibile soluzione (un po' un martello! e un po' rischiosa) potrebbe essere:

sudo nano /boot/grub/menu.lst

e cambiare la riga
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.xx-xx-generic root=/dev/xx/ubuntu-root ro quiet splash

ho provato anche quest'ultima soluzione ma tutto rimane invariato, però una cosa è certa, se io disabilito i driver della scheda video il problema non si pone, però a me i driver servono in quanto uso compiz
