Ho un Seagate FreeAgent Pro da 500 GB collegato con cavo eSATA ad una scheda Adaptec eSATA RAID 1225SA.
Tutto funziona normalmente, ma ho dei dubbi circa le corrette modalità con cui collegare e scollegare la periferica esterna.
Ho chiesto alla Adaptec e mi è stato risposto:
"You have to shut down the system before disconnecting the external drive. This can not be used like a USB drive.
From a hardware point of view this is possible as eSATA is Hotplug capable, but the driver will create problems as the drive can not be safely removed (unmounted) from the filesystem.
Therefore, just removing the drive physically could damage the filesystem on the disk".
Mentre il supporto Seagate afferma:
"I would suggest you to place the cursor on the right hand side corner of the "System Tray" you would get an option called "Safe To Remove Hardware" double click on that you would get and message stating that "Safe To Remove Hardware", you can now unplug the external hard drive".
Premesso che della suddetta opzione "Safe To Remove Hardware" non sono riuscito a trovare traccia, comunque la manovra riguarderebbe soltanto lo scollegamento della periferica e sarebbe l'equivalente della "Rimozione sicura dell'hardware" dello USB.
Ciò significherebbe che anche il collegamento della periferica potrebbe avvenire al volo.
Per adesso sto procedendo collegando e scollegando il FreeAgent solo a computer spento, anche se ho fatto una prova a computer in funzione e tutto sembrava funzionare perfettamente.
Che cosa ne pensate?
Cooler Master 600W, Asus P5E, Intel Q6600, Kingston 2 GB, ATI Radeon 3850, 2 x Seagate Barracuda ES 500 GB, Windows XP Pro SP2.
