per quella scheda i driver sono già inclusi in xorg, ti basta indicare in /etc/X11/xorg.conf al posto di "vesa" la voce "intel" e riavvare il server grafico.
comincia a controllare questa cosa, poi cerchiamo il resto.

come mai tutta questa "urgenza" per gli effetti grafici?

Poi per quanto riguarda la "mania" degli effetti è perchè ho praticamente installato questa versione di Ubuntu(Ubuntu Ultimate 1.6) per giocarci un po' diciamo:chupachup:...poi ho invece un'altro Ubuntu che uso per scuola...:)
....sempre che supporti gli effetti grafici. Molte schede Intel per i portatili non ce la fanno...
Beh,io spero che li supporti visto che il portatile è recente...Nelle caratteristiche c'è una voce la quale dice che supporta Holographic 3D e tante altre cose che non so cosa siano:boh:...Quindi credo e spero...:inchino:
