hi all,
i'm new on the forum so first of all...thanks to tom's hardaware forum.
i'm building a workstation to work with zbrush, maya, realflow etc.etc..
Looking around it look like there are 2 solutions: or dual xeon or un i7, (i'm wondering how ecc memory can help in 3d)
Build 1:
370 x 2= 740 euro 2x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5620 (12M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 5.86 GT/s Intel® QPI)
240 euro ASUS Z8NA-D6c - scheda madre - ATX - LGA1366 Socket - i5500 - LGA1366 Socket
250 euro 12gb ram ecc fujizu1033
650 euro quadro 4000
total =1900 euro

Build 2:
550 euro Intel® Core™ i7-3930K Processor (12M Cache, 3.20 GHz)
200 euro ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

my dilemma is about processors, comparing bus/core ratio..that if i'm not wrong is better if higher...i7 is 57 and xeon is 18, considering also that i7 have higher frequencies....dunno..what would you choose?can someone help me in undestanding what is more important for 3d applications...talking about rendering and fluid simulation..so cpu works

la 2° non è compatibile,il processore vuole una scheda madre diversa :ok:
io prenderei la 2° con una asus x79 pro
 
si la scheda madre ha il socket sbagliato, my mistake..
il mio budget è intorno ai 2000, senza case e alimentatore e schermi, che gia ho..accetto consigli anche per gli hard disk:-)
ho trovato sul sito questa recensione:Intel Core i7 3930K, la scelta intelligente per gli appassionati - Tom's Hardware
A quanto pare, dai benchmark sembra che il 2600k non sia cosi inferiore come prestazioni,considerando che il 3930k costa quasi il doppio..

si la differenza è poca ma si sente con le applicazioni che sfruttano più core. avere 2c/4t in più non fa male se li sfrutti :asd:
 
sarà una workstation per lavorare, no gaming o altro, se overclokkare e o meno non so ancora, ma dalla recensione che ho letto le prestazioni migliorano parecchio, quindi perchè no..ogni consiglio è gradito :-)

Il doppio xeon secondo voi sarebbe da evitare?

mille grazie!!da tutte e due le configurazioni toglierei schermo e alimentatore che gia ho, quindi 230 euro in meno..per la scheda madre della seconda configurazione resterei schiscio quindi sui 200 va bene..
Passando al tasto dolente..SCHEDA VIDEO...alternative valide secondo voi?
Principalmente userò maya, zbrush, fumefx su 3d studio, nuke e after.
