PROBLEMA Windows 98 fa crashare VirtualBox

Salve,
ho un problema con VirtualBox 4.3.12 r93733 installato su Windows 8.1 Update 1
Vorrei installare Windows 98 su una VM di VirtualBox.
Il problema è che quando accendo la VM con la ISO di Windows 98, dopo il BIOS crasha, dandomi il messaggio "Oracle VM VirtualBox ha smesso di funzionare" e si chiude.
Ora, non è solo un mio problema, dato che ho letto su altri siti inglesi che il problema è comune, ma non ci capivo niente.
Qualcuno di voi sa come risolvere il problema?

P.S.: Ho lo stesso problema con MS Dos 7.0 (sia floppy sia CD), ma con MS Dos 6.22 va tutto bene
