La nuova scheda ATI sarà ufficialmente la 4870x2 e dotata di ben 2Gb GDDR5 con una probabile interfaccia di 2x256... A riguardo posto i due seguenti articoli:
We told you briefly here that dual RV770XT card codenamed R700 comes with 2GB memory but now we can confirm that Radeon HD 4870 X2 is the official name.
The volume production of R700 GDDR5 boards starts on July 28th while the card should be available in August 2008. ATI plans to sell BBA boards (Built By ATI) and the partners will buy a complete board including fan at least for the time being.
The board with 2GB GDDR5 might not be that cheap but the 1GB version is also be possible. ATI hopes to capture the performance crown and it has the best chance since years. An ATI VP already told us that according to internal testing R700 should end up faster than current flagship Geforce GTX 280.
The top notch R700 comes with 2GB GDDR5 memory, but AMD will allow its partners to build a GDDR3 based version of the card. Such a board will be cheaper and faster to market.
This configuration will include 1GB GDDR3 memory and two RV770PRO chips and since the partners will be allowed to build these boards there might be a chance to some of the AIBs might come with its own cooling solution.
Such a board might have a chance to come in August but it looks like that this particular version might come a bit later. R700 with GDDR5 has a big chance to start shipping as early as mid-August, but a fixed date has not been picked yet.
